Ammonia-run truck

The American company Amogy announced in mid-January the success of trials of an ammonia-fuelled tractor. After refuelling for eight minutes, the truck, which has an on-board power of 900 kW including batteries, was tested for several hours on the campus of Stony Brook University in the State of New York, United States. This truck is a retrofit of a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia, with a 300 kW ammonia fuel cell. Developed by Amogy, this system allows ammonia to be cracked on board the vehicle to produce hydrogen. According to the company, liquid ammonia has about three times the energy density of compressed hydrogen and it requires much less energy to use, making it more cost-effective to store and transport.
